The County Legislature or Executive Board is the governing body of the county and exercises broad policy-making authority. The Board is charged with implementing policy and overseeing the county budget process and allocation.

The County Constable is the executive enforcement branch of the county justice courts. County Constables are peace officers responsible for law enforcement and also serve legal documents like restraining orders and warrants.

The County Deputy Sheriff is responsible for enforcing local, state, and federal laws within their county. The County Deputy Sheriff patrols, makes arrests, and responds to emergency and non-emergency calls in addition to running county jail and courtroom security. The County Deputy Sheriff may also provide community education, testify in court, or complete necessary reports.

The County Courts shall have exclusive original jurisdiction in all matters relating to county taxes, roads, bridges, ferries, paupers, bastardy, vagrants, the apprenticeship of minors, the disbursement of money for county purposes, and in every other case that may be necessary to the internal improvement and local concerns of the respective counties.

The High Bailiff assumes the duties of the County Sheriff if they are deemed unfit or in the event of a vacancy. If necessary, they may also carry out the arrest of the Sheriff. They are rarely asked to perform either of these duties.
