The County Highway Commissioner is responsible for budgeting and appropriation of funds for all county activities; building and maintaining county roads; making and enforcing civil and criminal resolutions and ordinances not in conflict with state law, including those for land use and building construction; supporting and implementing state and federal mandates; executive oversight of all appointed county agencies; construction and maintenance of public buildings; fixing the tax levies for the county and its subordinate jurisdictions; authorizing payments owed by the county and auditing all officers having control of county funds; and managing county property and county funds.
Eligibility requirements
Candidate must reside in and be a qualified voter of the county. He or she must possess at least a high school diploma or GED and meet one of the following criteria: 1. Be licensed to practice engineering in TN, be a graduate of an accredited school of engineering, with at least 2 years of experience in highway construction or maintenance; or have a least 4 years' experience in supervisory capacity in highway construction or maintenance.
